# Creating a Planting

You can create a planting for an irrigation unit provided that the planting does not overlap with any other planting for the unit. Use the **Add Planting** option at the bottom right of the plantings list to create a new planting.

1. Choose the crop type from the drop-down list
2. Enter the planting date and the harvest date.
3. (Optional) Enter a Refill Point or root depth for the planting. If there is a refill point specified for the crop type this will be defaulted in here.
4. Enter a descriptive name for the planting. This will appear in the plantings list when you create an order so choose a description that will make the planting easy to identify.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can only have one planting on an Irrigation Unit at a time. You will be warned if your planting dates overlap with another planting.
